A man who claimed to be a missionary priest was arrested in Davao del Norte.
Based on the video shared by GMA News TV “Balita Pilipinas” on Wednesday, the suspect, identified as Eljune Lumbo, was not able to provide papers as proof that he is a real priest when asked by Rev. Father Danilo Dotollo.
Fr. Dotollo allowed Lumbo once to conduct a mass at the Immaculate Concepcion Parish in Island Garden City of Samal.
But Dotollo noticed that Lumbo has a different style of conducting a mass.
Dotollo also received reports against the suspect.
Turns out from Police investigation that Lumbo also asks money for baptism ceremonies and gets his ‘slice’ out of offerings every mass.
P/Sr. Insp. Joselito Tan Jr., Investigation officer of Samal Police, said complainants disclosed that Lumbo also holds mass outside his supposed jurisdiction.
Lumbo denied the allegations against him and stressed that he is a missionary priest.
“Sa offering wala po kaming binibigay na sobre ako mismo na pari ay hindi po ako nagsasabi na bayaran ninyo ang pagserve ko kasi as a missionary nasa tao po yun kung willing,” Lumbo said. [We don’t hand envelopes and I do not ask for payment for my services as a missionary because it is up to the people if they are willing.]
Lumbo is facing a case for violating Article 318 of the Revised Penal Code which have something to do with swindling and other offenses.
