An improvised explosive device (IED) was found along the side of the Datu Saudi Ampatuan National Highway at Barangay Kabingi, Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, Maguindanao province at around 4 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Police Senior Inspector Abdulbasit Kulod, Datu Saudi Ampatuan Chief of Police, the bomb was found by a civilian who immediately reported it to the authorities.
The IED was made out of a 60-millimeter mortar, wrapped in packaging tape and had wires attached to it.
The Philippine Army’s explosive ordnance disposal team responded at the scene, scoured the area and defused the explosive at a safer place.
The 6th Infantry Division said it continues to be on alert during Lent, as disclosed by ABS CBN News.
