MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Counter Intelligence Task Force (CITF) have arrested four members of the Manila Police District (MPD) who allegedly extorted money from an Egyptian national whom they arrested for illegal drugs.

The four cops arrested were identified as SPO3 Ranny Litonjoa Dionisio, PO3 Richard Osorio Bernal, PO1 Elequiel Jeric Fernandez, and PO1 Arjay Lastricia Lasap; all assigned at the MPD Intelligence Section at the Malate Police Station.

According to CITF commander, Senior Supt. Jose Chiquito Malayo, the Egyptian national sought their assistance after at least 20 police officers arrested him last April 9 on alleged illegal drugs charges.

The Egyptian said the cops demanded P200,000 from him in exchange for dropping the complaint. The amount was later reduced to P50,000 and he agreed to meet with them to give the money on Friday, April 13.

An entrapment operation was launched leading to the arrest of the four police officers who are currently detained at the NBI for the filing of appropriate charges.

Meanwhile, Malayo said they are still conducting a follow-up investigation to identify and arrest the cops’ six other cohorts.
