Incoming Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde is determined to keep the “dignified image” and discipline of our nation’s 190,000-strong police force.
The former NCRPO chief has been known for his “surprise visits” to police precincts which resulted in the removal of several cops.
When asked if the chief if will continue this, Albayalde was quoted by Manila Bulletin as saying, “Yes we will do that (nationwide surprise inspection) if we really can.”
However, he added he will start delegating the task to commanders. Albayalde added, “Although what I will do, as I won’t be able to do it personally now, I will put the responsibility to the commanders on the ground.”
Albayalde has earlier stated that as part of the PNP’s internal cleansing, he will hold commanders more responsible for their men’s actions.
He was quoted by Inquirer: “They will be made responsible for the deeds or misdeeds or the actions or misactions of all their subordinates.”
President Duterte had earlier commented that Albayalde’ is ‘perfect’ for the PNP chief position. He said, “He is very strict. Albayalde is the man for you. The stricter the better.”
