China is hiring an initial 2,000 English teachers from the Philippines, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

As mentioned in the Inquirer story dated April 14, 2018, DOLE and China signed a bilateral agreement for the hiring of Filipino teachers that will teach English. The monthly salary being offered is $1,200 monthly.

“We have just signed a bilateral agreement with the Ambassador of China for the deployment of an initial 2,000 English teachers to China,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello II said.

The bilateral agreement outlines the work hours, salary, benefits and other employment rules for the Filipino workers. The agreement may be renewed after two years.

Bello expressed confidence that many Filipino teachers will apply for a teaching job in China as it actually needs 100,000 teachers.

China is also set to hire domestic helpers for the middle-class homes in Shanghai, Xiamen and Beijing.
