The government will be assigning almost 1,600 dental professionals in barangays, municipalities, and provinces nationwide especially in remote areas to monitor the oral health of the Filipinos.
The good news came after the Department of Health’s (DOH) proposal was approved in a Cabinet meeting Wednesday night.
In the approved DOH proposal, the department is needing more than P4 billion per year to shoulder the salaries of more than 1,600 dentists and dental hygienists who will serve as officials and human resource in government clinics/agencies in provinces, municipalities, and barangays.
The dental hygienists will have a monthly income of not less than P17,000 while the dentists or those who will be designated as officials will receive P30,000-P73,000 monthly.
Included in the responsibilities of the program is the monitoring of public school children’s oral health.
And for the country to have enough dental professionals, a special scholarship program for the job is also being pushed through.
