  • Corrupt LTO and DPWH personnel in Nueva Vizcaya were ordered relieved by President Duterte
  • The corrupt employees collect as much as P1 million a day from truck owners
  • The very annoyed President Duterte said he will squeeze the faces of the corrupt employees

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the relief of several Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel assigned to man a truck weighing station in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, on Friday, April 6, said the President’s order came following complaints from truck owners of the extortion activities of the corrupt LTO and DPWH personnel.

According to Politiko, the corrupt LTO and DPWH employees manning the truck weighing station in Barangay Calitlitan in Aritao town collect up to one million pesos a day from truck owners.

All trucks loaded with agricultural products are required to go through a weighbridge at the truck weighing station to determine if they are overloaded. This requirement is being exploited by the corrupt employees. They demand P500 to P1,000 for each truck whose owners have no choice but to pay to avoid delay and inconvenience.

The corrupt employees could collect from P500,000 up to P1 million a day as about 1,000 trucks pass at the area every day.

The President ordered Transportation Secretary Art Tugade to immediately relieve the involved employees and asked him to bring them to Malacañang so he can “squeeze their faces.”

“Art, pasensya ka na istorbohin muna kita pero kailangan mo i-relieve yong mga LTO mo sa Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya. Pagkatapos dalhin mo sila sa akin sa Malacañang kay kumoton nako ilang mga nawong,” the President told Tugade.

[(Art, I’m sorry I have to bother you but you have to relieve your LTO personnel in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya. After that, you bring them to me in Malacañang because I would like to squeeze their faces.]
