- Sandiganbayan has ordered Argosino and Robles detained at Camp Bagong Diwa
- The order came just hours after the two former Immigration officials posted bail
- The accused are facing plunder charges in connection with the alleged P50-M bribery scandal in 2016
MANILA, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan on Tuesday has ordered the detention of two former Bureau of Immigration (BI) officials implicated in the P50-M bribery scandal at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
The detention order came just a few hours after ex- Deputy Commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles posted P60,000 bail each in connection with the plunder charge they are facing.
In fact, Argosino and Robles were still inside the office of the Clerk of Court when the Sandiganbayan resolution came out.
Explaining the odd coincidence, 6th Division clerk of court Ruth Ferrer said the commitment order was already out since last week but lacks the signature of an associate justice who was out-of-town.
It was only released on Tuesday; the same day that the accused have posted their respective bails.
Aside from the two former BI officials, arrest warrants were likewise issued against retired policeman Wally Sombrero and Chinese casino mogul Jack Lam.
Argosino, Robles and Sombrero all face plunder and bribery complaints while Lam is facing only graft and direct bribery charges.
The case against the four stemmed from alleged P50-M bribe which was purportedly intended to secure the release of around 1,300 Chinese nationals working illegally inside a casino in Pampanga two years ago.
