A student from the De La Salle University in Manila cried foul over what she calls an ‘insult disguised as criticism’ from their research professor.
On Twitter, the student posted a photo of the research papers which has remarks from the professor.
“So I’m just a freshman in uni, so can anyone tell me if this is normal?” she captioned the photo she tweeted.
“If you guys are having a hard time reading the text: ‘THIS IS A FAILURE BEYOND EXPECTED!’, ‘THIS IS A JOKE! THIS IS NOT THE BEST TIME TO JOKE AROUND!’, ‘WHAT IS THIS???’ Also there are more comments out there, these are the ones I managed to get a hold on,” she added.
She shared how many students got hurt with the teacher’s comments on their final paper.
“People were crying before and after they got their research papers, it was absolute hel*. She gave just a little over five minutes for each of the papers given and had noted ’10 or more mistakes equals an AUTOMATIC FAIL’. An entire term of work gone in an instant,” she said.
The students then noted, in her own understanding, the difference between “constructive criticism” and “insult”.
“I am not criticizing the prof at all for the grades or their overall character. This prof can be nice, helpful, and funny. Rather I’m condemning this type of behavior and insult disguised as criticism,” she stated.
“Comments like these could kill someone (literally and figuratively). This kills drive, motivation, passion, heart, and everything that keeps a human being going. Criticism is constructive and helps someone grow. Insults belittle the people they are aimed at,” she further said.
