- Malacañang finally broke silence on rumors that President Duterte fired or will soon fire Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II
- Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra clarified that they haven’t received any word about the issue
- Last Month, the President stated that he will soon fire some officials
Malacañang reacted on speculations that President Duterte has fired or has plans of firing Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.
During a press conference, Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra clarified they still have no word from the President. Guevarra was quoted by GMA saying, “No statement from PRRD [Duterte] to that effect.”
This came after there were several calls for the Justice Secretary to step down after the dismissal of alleged drug lords Kerwin Espinosa and others. During the President’s speech last on March 23, he said that he will be firing more officials soon but gave no other details.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque earlier shared his opinion on the matter. He was quoted by Inquirer saying, “And the President has not hesitated to fire even members of the Cabinet. For as long as he has not been fired, he enjoys the trust and confidence of the President… as, you know, as is the case with all of us.”
