Palarong Pambansa athlete Rashied Faith Burdeos believes that he owes his win to God.
Burdeos bagged the Gold medal in the shot put competition held at University of Northern Philippines in Vigan City. The athlete from Tuguegarao North Central School posted 10.13 meters for shot put- elementary boys.
Burdeos revealed that when his opponent from Visayas bet his fifth throw, he told ABS-CBN, “Kanina nung nag-10.11 ‘yung taga Western Visayas, sabi ko ‘Lord, bakit ganoon? Pinapatalo mo naman ako.”
[When my opponent from Western Visayas beat me at 10.11, I told the Lord, “Why are you letting me lose?]
But he continued praying ang said, “Sabi niya, hintayin mo lang, mananalo ka. Tapos nanalo nga ako.” [He answered, you will win and then I won.]
Burdeos’ mother, Linell, also admitted she prayed to all the saints for her son’s win.
The single mother, who had to borrow money to pay for their fare, is overwhelmed with Rashied’s Gold medal. She said, “Dream kasi talaga niya ‘yan.” [That his dream.]
