Student with bone disease inspires everyone as she graduates magna cum laude

A student with a genetic disorder that target the bone proved that disability is not a hindrance to success.

Blissie Cervantes took the stage on a wheelchair as she received her magna cum laude award. Cervantes graduated Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Marketing Management at Holy Child College of Davao.

The 22-year-old graduate was diagnosed with ‘osteogenesis imperfecta’ when she was only three years old. ‘Osteogenesis imperfecta’ is also known as brittle bone disease and is a genetic disorder that mainly affect the bones.

Cervantes shared with ABS-CBN that there’s really no secret to her success; she just does what she loves doing. She said she simply follows what her teachers ask, finish assignments, submit requirements and study hard.

Her mother, Elsie has been with her all day, everyday in school to assist her. She too is proud of her daughter, “Super proud kaayo ko… sa iyang na-achieve karon.” [I’m so proud of what she achieved today.]

On her Facebook page, Cervantes shared a video of the speech she made during the ceremony. She motivated everyone to strive hard and said: “The most rewarding things in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.”
