- Kelli Rowlette, 36, sent off her DNA to be tested by Ancestry.com last year
- She is suing retired Idaho fertility specialist Dr. Gerald E Mortimer after discovering he was her real dad
A 36-year-old-woman has claimed she was shocked to discover her real dad is her parents’ fertility doctor after taking an Ancestry.com DNA test.
Kelli Rowlette reportedly is suing retired Idaho fertility specialist Dr. Gerald E Mortimer after he was revealed as her DNA match through the site.
Rowlette was never told that her now-divorced parents ever had trouble conceiving her until she confronted them with the results of her DNA exam.
Due to her father’s low sperm count and her mother’s uterine condition, her parents elected to undergo a medical procedure in which her mother would be artificially inseminated with both sperm from her husband and a donor.
According to the lawsuit, it claims the doctor was aware he used his own sperm to impregnate Rowlette’s mum when she and her husband went to him for help in the early 1980s.
“Dr. Mortimer fraudulently and knowingly concealed his use of his own genetic material in the procedure. Dr. Mortimer knew Kelli Rowlette was his biological daughter but did not disclose this,” the complaint claims.
