Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa believe that a bigger budget would help solve the problems of the New Bilibid Prison.
In his first two days as chief of BuCor, he admitted that he has seen more problems than possible solutions.
“In my two days na stay sa BuCor, wala pa akong nakikitang solusyon, ang nakikita ko puro problema,” Dela Rosa shared with ANC.
The new BuCor chief noted some of the problems of Bilibid includes jail congestion and the illegal trade. He added, “Isa lang pinakamalaking solusyon dito: pera, budget…” [The biggest solution here is money, budget]
He shared of his plans if they were given a bigger budget. They will build a mega prison facility in Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija to address the problem of jail congestion. He also proposed to hire more prison guards and double their salaries.
Dela Rosa also shared the “security nightmare” they face is that the wall of the maximum security compound is just beside a public road and housing units. He said that people would easily throw in contraband right across the wall and inside the facility.
