  • Bong Go recently launched the ‘Malasakit Center’ in Cebu City
  • The center aims to help poor and needy Filipinos who have no financial capacity to pay for their medicines and medical treatment
  • The center’s initial fund would come from the socio-civic fund of the President, which was collected from taxes on ‘sin products’

Together with officials of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go recently launched the ‘Malasakit Center‘ in Cebu City.

The Malasakit Center aims to help poor and needy Filipinos who have no financial capacity to pay for their medicines and medical treatment, said Go.

He said during the launching on May 1 that the center’s opening was in response to a directive from President Duterte to give a one-stop desk for poor Filipinos who need medical attention but are financially poor.

The Malasakit Center’s initial fund of P50 million would come from socio-civic fund of the President, which was collected from taxes on ‘sin products.’

Duterte instructed the launch of the center after receiving several complaints from needy Cebuanos that they had to wait in long lines before getting treatment in hospitals, aside from lack of funds to buy their prescriptions.

The Malasakit Center would not only be available in Cebu City but it would also be launched in the cities of Tacloban, Dumaguete and Bacolod.

The Malasakit Center was first launched in the city of Davao.
