Campus journalists were lauded by the Department of Education (DepEd) for their successful coverage of the Palarong Pambansa 2018.

Through its Public Affairs Service (PAS), the DepEd applauded on Wednesday, May 2, the student-journalists for their successful reportage of the event that took place in Ilocos Sur from April 15 to 21, 2018.

“Our student journalists have effectively captured the highlights and side stories of one of the Department’s biggest programs. We are very pleased with their outputs, and foresee a bright future for all of them, which is why we will continue to implement trainings to further hone their skills,” said DepEd Assistant Secretary for PAS and Alternative Learning System G.H. Ambat.

While such was not rolled out as a competition, outstanding write-ups and photographs were recognized after the event.

For story writing, Region VII (Central Visayas) scored the highest; followed by Region IV-B (MIMAROPA) and Region II (Cagayan Valley), respectively.

For photojournalism, Region VII scored the highest; while Region V (Bicol) and the National Capital Region tied for second, followed by Region IV-B (MIMAROPA).

“In this age of ’fake news’ and changing digital technology, we need writers who will tell true stories – based on what they see, what they hear, and what they know,” Ambat stated.
