Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat confirmed that it’s a “no” for the Philippines hosting the Miss Universe this year.
Sec. Puyat said there other matters that the agency needs to focus on. She was quoted by ABS-CBN saying, “Hindi muna (not) this year. We’ll focus muna on other things. Anyway, kaka-Miss Universe lang naman so baka saka na lang.” [Not this year. We just had Miss Universe so maybe next time.]
“Marami muna tayo kailangang ayusin,” she added. [We need to fix a lot of things]
Since last year, there have been a lot of fans who were hopeful that we can host the prestigious pageant again. Just early this May, Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart said the Philippines is a great option but they are still ironing out details. She and two more Miss Universe beauties – 2016 Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere and reigning Miss Universe Demi Leigh Nel-Peters were in the country recently.
