Senator Manny Pacquiao officially opened his training camp in General Santos City as a start for his preparations for the bout against Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse.

Reunited with longtime friends and trainers Raides “Nonoy” Neri and Buboy Fernandez, the “Pacman” is now doing regular gym drills while building up his stamina with cardio workouts.

Pacquiao, now 39, did mitts work with Fernandez. They started off slow and are hoping to pick up steam in the middle stages of the training camp.

He also pounds the heavy bag and finishes with his usual abs work routine.

Pacquiao is taking advantage of the senate recess to train without distractions.

He is set to challenge Matthysse for a welterweight championship title in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 15.

“I am excited to return to the ring once again and face a dangerous champion in a difficult and challenging fight. I am inspired as I am also excited to face the champion,” said Pacquiao, who will be fighting for the first time since losing to Jeff Horn in July 2017.

Pacquiao also serves as a promoter of the boxing event, which will be the biggest boxing extravaganza in Malaysia since Muhammad Ali faced Joe Bugner 43 years ago.
