- Paolo Duterte is under probe by the Ombudsman for various charges
- These include graft, forfeiture and perjury, among others
- Ombudsman Morales said she has since inhibited from the cases involving the First Family
MANILA, Philippines – Former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte is under investigation by the Office of the Ombudsman for various complaints; this was revealed by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales in a forum early this week.
Morales said she was told that the probe concerning the younger Duterte’s alleged unexplained wealth has been ‘closed and terminated’, but there is another one pending with the anti-graft body involving a member of the First Family.
“When you say closed and terminated, that is without prejudice to another investigation if warranted,” Morales explained.
When asked who she was referring to, Morales said it’s the ‘vice mayor’.
However, Morales explained she has since inhibited from the case involving the First Family and the documents no longer pass through her office.
“I do not want to get involved so there would be no more tantrums,” said Morales; apparently alluding to the previous outbursts of the President against her.
While Morales did not divulge the nature of the pending cases against the presidential son, reports obtained by reporters showed the latter is facing issues which include graft, forfeiture, perjury, violation of the code of conduct for public officials, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
Paolo Duterte resigned as vice mayor last December after his name was dragged into the P6.4-B smuggled narcotics from China.
Early this month, the Ombudsman Special Panel of Fact-Finding Investigators cleared Duterte and his brother-in-law, Atty. Manases ‘Mans’ Carpio, in connection with the smuggling case, while at the same time recommended the filing of charges against ex-Customs chief Nicanor Faeldon and several others.
