- More Filipinos are jobless in the 3rd quarter of 2018
- The joblessness rate was 2.3 points higher than the rate recorded last June
- More Filipinos are pessimistic that there will be available jobs for them in the next 12 months
The number of adult Filipinos who are jobless reached 9.8 million; this is according to the survey made by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) conducted on September 15-23, the result of which was released on Saturday, November 10.
There were 1,500 survey respondents (600 from Balanced Luzon and 300 each from Metro Manila, Mindanao and Visayas) who were interviewed face-to-face.
The survey result said the joblessness rate of Filipinos on the 3rd quarter of 2018 was 2.3 points higher than the rate recorded last June.
As per ABS-CBN, SWS defines jobless Filipinos as those who voluntary left their old jobs, retrenched and first-time job seekers.
Of the total number of jobless Filipinos, 4.1 million were retrenched, 3.7 million voluntarily left their jobs, or two million were first-time job seekers.
Metro Manila has the highest increase in joblessness rate (26.4 percent) compared to the rest of Luzon (22.9 percent), Mindanao (19.7 percent) and Visayas (19.6 percent).
The survey also showed that joblessness rate was higher among women compared to men and that more Filipinos are pessimistic there will be more jobs available for them in the next 12 months.
The SWS said its quarterly surveys on joblessness are not commissioned, but are done on its own initiative and released as a public service.
