Giant companies such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé, and Pepsi swore to reduce and recycle their plastic packaging after being tagged as the world’s top ‘plastic polluters’ in the second brand audit conducted by an environmental network Break Free From Plastics.

These companies vowed to lessen their plastic packaging one step at a time in order to help resolve the issue in plastic p0llution and ocean waste.

According to a report from Adweek, Coca-cola plans to produce recyclable packaging by 2025. They are also aiming to collect and recover all their cans ad bottles by 2030 to prevent them from entering the oceans.

Nestlé stated that they are reducing the size and thickness of their packaging and gradually removing the non-recyclable plastics, as reported in ABS-CBN.

“As the world’s largest food and beverage company, we know we have an important role to play in shaping sustainable solutions to tackle the issue of plastics waste,” said Nestle Philippines.

“It is completely unacceptable for that packaging to end up as litter in the environment and we are working hard to make all of our packaging either recyclable or reusable by 2025.”

On the other hand, Pepsi promised to reduce 35 percent of virgin plastic in their products. They are also aiming to produce packaging that are 100 percent recyclable and biodegradable by 2025.

Meanwhile, environmental organization Break Free From Plastics reminds everyone against relying on papers and bio plastic as replacement for plastics as they are false solutions to this environmental problem.

They stated that the measures taken by huge companies would also require some effort from the consumers. The overuse of plastic needs to be stopped as it is one of the root causes of this environmental problem and is keeping the number of global litter.
