MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Tuesday it has identified the identity and location of the man who allegedly posted a malicious threat against Frankie Pangilinan on social media.

Through its cybercrime division, Justice Undersecretary and Spokesperson Markk Perete said they were able to track down the man, including the identity of his employer, using ‘open source intelligence’ but did not reveal any other details.

Perete said they also requested Facebook to preserve the contents of the account which the netizen used to upload the offensive threat pending the filing of raps by the offended party.

“Should a complaint be filed, law enforcers may apply for a warrant to disclose computer data and a request for extradition, if warranted, may be made,” Perete told reporters.

The Justice official noted that the respondent may still face charges even if he is out of the country such as in violation of Safe Spaces Act and the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

“We have a number of laws which actually would extend jurisdiction for so long as one of the elements of the crime is committed,” he added.

Earlier, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra confirmed that actress Sharon Cuneta has reached out to him and expressed her ‘strong desire’ to file a complaint against the person she identified in her Instagram post as Sonny Alcos.

Alcos is believed to be in London and has since deactivated his social media accounts.

In her post, an incensed Sharon vowed to go after Alcos who posted the threat against her daughter on social media for ‘disrespecting’ her daughter in a ‘despicable, malicious and insidious way’.

“I. WILL. FIND. YOU. YOU FACE ME, YOU COWARD,” she added. “YOU CROSSED THE LINE. GOD HELP ME AND THE LAW! GOD HELP YOU WHEN I FIND YOU,” the Megastar wrote.
